How troop fundraising works
- 1Pick an appropriate project — age-suited, legal, and value-giving (popcorn is the standard).
- 2File the Unit Money-Earning Application — get council and chartered-org approval ~2 weeks ahead.
- 3Use a licensed supplier for popcorn (Trail's End / Pecatonica River / Camp Masters); consult the council for anything else.
- 4Check local solicitation laws and permits.
- 5Sell safely — buddy system, adult oversight, never door-to-door alone; uniform only if council-approved.
- 6Use the funds for the troop program, tracked transparently.
The rules & the value
- Application first — approved by council and chartered org before you start.
- Licensed popcorn suppliers only — Trail's End, Pecatonica River, and Camp Masters are the nationally authorized ones; ask the council before other product fundraisers.
- Teaches real skills — decision-making, money management, goal-setting, and business ethics.
- Not the Eagle project — troop fundraising is separate from the Eagle service project's fundraising, which has its own rules.
